Cocktails - Cocktail Descriptions #3

Tequila Sunrise
"The tequila sunrise cocktail shatters the myth that only lime goes well with tequila. Combining sweet citrus and cherries, the cocktail possesses a balance between its tequila and fruit components, creating a simple alternative to more complex tropical drinks. One of the easiest mixed drinks to master, you can mix up the tequila sunrise in no time, helping you to sharpen your bar skills and impress your friends and guests with your ever-expanding mixology studies." "This is another great morning cocktail recipe or great for brunches and is on of my personal favorites because of the sweetness of the drink. The grenadine wakes you up with a sugar rush while the orange juice helps your toast and cheerios go down better with an Advil or 2. I first discovered this wonderful bute of a cocktail recipe in Acapulco a few years back, but was originally served in the 50′s in Cancun. After the 70′s, discos, bell bottoms, perms, and afro, this cocktail lost most of its fame due to culture change. Its still a goodie, but an oldie." (link)

"The Tequila Sunrise has to be one of the best known and loved cocktail in the world. Not only is the Tequila Sunrise a great tasting cocktail, it's also very easy to make. This is my recipe for how to mix a classic tequila sunrise cocktail. The Tequila Sunrise cocktail is easy to identify thanks to its distinctive sunrise effect given by the addition of Grenadine. This iconic cocktail also shares its name with the US band The Eagles first single from the second album Desperado, which was released back in 1973. The tequila sunrise cocktail is a true classic and deservedly so, a sure fire hit for any party. In order to do this cocktail justice you will need to use a premium brand of tequila, personally I would recommend Jose Cuervo Especial." (link)

"The Tequila Sunrise is another orange juice based cocktail, like the Screwdriver, the Orange Blossom and the Harvey Wallbanger. The long-standing appeal of these drinks is actually the orange juice – it hydrates your body and provides Vitamin C to prevent or reduce hangover effects, but you still get your alcohol kick, too. They’re a great choice to serve guests who are just social drinkers, but they’re equally popular with more dedicated drinkers. The Tequila Sunrise gets its name from the visual effect of the grenadine dropping to the bottom, then slowly rising." (link)

"The classic Cosmopolitan, became one of the favorite cocktails ever due mostly to it's role in the HBO show, Sex and the City. Most bartenders know how to make this light, fruity Martini, making it a great choice for a casual night out. There are hundreds of variations on the Cosmo, some use more or less cranberry juice, some triple sec instead of Cointreau, and some include a citrus vodka. It's all a matter of personal preference, this is the way I like it." (link)

"Hard to deny the popularity of this cocktail. Fruity, tasty, refreshing and with a wonderful pink hue. One criticism would be that it may be a little sweet for some tastes. The Cosmopolitan gained significant popularity in the 1990`s partly due to the fact that Sarah Jessica Parkers character, Carrie Bradshaw, in the hit televsion programme, "Sex in the City", often ordered the drink." White Russian
"The drink is not traditionally Russian, but is so named due to Russian vodka being the primary ingredient. The "White Russians" were an anti-Bolshevik group from the Russian Civil War." (link)

"The White Russian is a drink everyone should know. It's a simple, creamy vodka mixed drink with a nice coffee flavor that makes a great after dinner sipper. If you skip the cream you'll have a Black Russian, give the White Russian a shake at the end and you have a Dirty Bird, add amaretto and you have a Roasted Toasted Almond. The related drink list to the White Russian is almost endless." (link)

"The White Russian is one of the most popular of all cocktails, and with good reason. It has a deep, smooth flavour and is the perfect drink to kick back and relax with. The White Russian is the favourite drink of Jeffrey "The Dude" Lebowski, the main character of the 1998 film, "The Big Lebowski"." (link)

"A White Russian is a classic creamy cocktail that is made with vodka, coffee liqueur, and cream, milk or half and half. It is typically served in an Old-Fashioned (or rocks) glass over ice. The vodka and coffee liqueur are first poured into a glass that has been filled with ice, and then the drink is topped off with milk or half and half. The finished drink is usually not stirred, as the dark Kahlua and the vodka should rest on the bottom of the glass below the milk or half and half." (link)

"The White Russian is basically the Black Russian with cream, but there are a couple of variations on it. While a Black Russian always uses coffee liqueur, and the White Russian traditionally does too, the White can also use white Creme de Cacao for a more chocolatey flavor. This classic cocktail’s popularity is well-established. Not everyone loves it – those who object to creamy drinks or sweet liqueurs generally dislike this one. But it definitely has more fans than detractors." (link)
