Software Workshop 4

A quick way to gather everything together that have been used in a InDesign file, can do to File > Package. Comes us with a menu box to have a quick check everything is there, and if anything's there that shouldn't be. Can check a lot of what we just looked at in the exercise above using this.

Can use this as a way to send off to a commercial printer, when you click ok it comes up with a printing instructions box where you can specify any requirements, and also supply your address and contact details.

By using this means you have to send them everything you have used, fonts, images, etc, and by sending them over you have to first get permission from where they are purchased from to be able to send them. Sending a file as a PDF embeds all the information into the file and will be ok and doesn't need to be checked before sending.

To make a PDF go to File > Export. Select PDF print. When you click save you then get a menu box for this. A lot are similar to print options. What helps with this are the presets, select Press Quality - this is the best option to choose for print. Shouldn't need to change any of this in the options then. If you turn on the Background Tasks before saving, you can watch this to make sure it saves properly.

Output > Preflight. This gives you an overview of the document to keep a check on it. This is useful whilst working on files.
