Type Workshop 2

Here are the notes I made from the second type workshop on 13/10/2011.

Five key things when working with type
  • serif/san serif
  • point size
  • weight
  • composition
  • case - upper/lower

Letter spacing - kerning
   - need kerning for readability

Method of letter spacing
   - altering the space between individual letters
   - ensuring a single word sits comfortable on a page

Something you would do with a word not a body of text
   - it's a bit geeky

How do we judge a letter spacing is right?
   - the amount of white space between a letter
   - an even amount of space
   - always leave biggest space space and change the rest to match this

How type is can determine the order something is read and information is received.

Task
Can you do a proverb in a box in the middle that can still be read?
   - preferably a short proverb.
